Meet the Owners

What's a nice couple from Ohio doing with a villa in Italy?

For Paul and Karen, it started with lots of Italian vacations. Italy has always been their favorite getaway destination. Even during the years with limited time away from work, they managed at least one Italian vacation a year. Over time, their appetite for la bella vita grew and they made many good friends in Italy. So when they had the opportunity to buy Rocca di Benano, it was an easy decision.

Now, their years of too-short vacations and their love of Italy are reflected in Rocca di Benano. As travelers themselves, they know how to make the authentic Italian experience accessible and uncomplicated.

Karen is a happy retiree from Big American Business who now devotes herself to their Tiny Italian Business, working with guests to making sure they have everything they need to get the most of their vacation. Corporate habits die hard, and she still carries business cards, but now those cards identify her as Rocca di Benano’s Chief Guest Happiness Officer.

Meet the Managers

Call him Alex–or by his nickname Sasha—but call him! Alex will greet you when you arrive and give you his cell number, should you ever need help. He’s also available to grill out on the terrace if you would like.

Even before you arrive, Olga will have stocked the kitchen with whatever you have requested. Need restaurant reservations? Olga will make them for you. She's the other half of the team that keeps you happy and comfortable.

What Our guests Say

About us

Without Karen’s insider tips and ideas, we would have missed out on some really lovely experiences. We have stayed at many homes and apartments using VRBO or HomeAway, and Karen has been by far the best. Though we have never met in person, I really feel as if she was a close friend who was there for us when we needed any help or ideas.

The owners of Rocca di Benano not only provide a perfect place to stay, they share with guests their experienced recommendations on what to see, where to go, where to eat, and more. Without the tips they shared, we might not have tasted the best gelato in the world (in the small town of Torre Alfina) or had the best wine tour and tasting ever (Palazzone outside of Orvieto). They also connected us with nice people who made the vacation great.
